I did my first triathlon in 2004 with my brother. We had big heavy mountain bikes! I did 4 triathlons that summer and then took a 10 year break until I joined Tri Lakes in 2014. I’ve come on a little bit since then! I did my first (and only) Ironman in Barcelona in October 2018 which I’m very proud of. I am enjoying my role as secretary in the club. There are the most wonderful people in this great little club.

 Bairbre Cunningham

Bairbre Cunningham

Social Officer

I got roped into doing my first sprint triathlon by our now new treasurer and Ironman, Orla Heneghan, in 2011. Joey Hannon in my home town Limerick.
When she mooted doing one, ‘before she was 50’ I thought it would be a good idea but also thought we had years of preparing, not realising it was within a year!
We had great fun preparing ,between swimming in The Masters on a Sunday and fitting in some basic running and cycling.
The cycling was nothing like what I was used to. Special gear, fancy looking bikes, helmets, clits not to mind creams! And of course Celia telling us that we shouldn’t have any energy to talk when we were running .
I thoroughly enjoyed the event and many after. I do complain about the effort it takes sometimes, hence not going as far as Orla in distances, but it’s a great sport. Variety is the key and the friendships that are built through the training sessions and social celebrations in this club are so important. The sharing of information and the support is second to none.
It’s time to give a little and hopefully I will be able to keep that social aspect of the club alive this year as the new Social Officer. (with help)
Always open for suggestions.

Paddy Murray

Paddy Murray

Treasurer

Joined Trilakes in 2013. Can’t rightly remember how or why. Rugby and martial arts background originally with a sprinkle of other sports thrown in for good measure.
Love the social aspect of Trilakes and great to get know people considering that I am a blow in. I will always remember how friendly and welcoming the club was when I first joined.
Great club and great people. My motto for the club is based on hearing it plenty of times been said to members “you’ll be well able for it”.
Makes me smile every time.
